In
2006, the Terry Lee Wells Foundation awarded a total of $465,765
in grants to 33 organizations in northern Nevada. The
grant amounts ranged from $1,000 to $150,000.
The
grant recipients and purposes of the grants are:
Angel
Kiss Foundation: support to families of children diagnosed
with cancer.
Assistance
League of Reno-Sparks: for Operation School Bell to provide
clothing for needy children in Washoe County.
Big
Brothers Big Sisters: Expand Big Brother Big Sister mentoring
services for at-risk children.
C*A*R*E
Chest Of Sierra Nevada: emergency prescriptions for single,
low-income mothers and grandmothers raising children in northern
Nevada.
Catholic
Community Services of Northern Nevada: for St. Vincents
Dining Room, Food Pantry, and Emergency Assistance Programs.
Children's
Cabinet: Teens Doing Stuff Program, which provides positive
recreational options and the opportunity for teens to become
involved in their community through voluntary service activities.
Children's
Cabinet: Independent Living Program to assist youth in
successfully aging out of the foster care system and becoming
independent and self-sufficient.
CitiCare:
transportation for people with disabilities, including frail
and elderly seniors.
Community
Chest, Inc.: Classroom on Wheels (COW) Bus preschool program
for parents and children ages 2-5 years in Storey and Lyon
Counties.
Community
Chest, Inc.: funding for a community health nurse in Storey
and western Lyon Counties.
Community
Foundation of Western Nevada: support for ongoing operations
of the Foundation.
Davidson
Institute for Talent Development: scholarships for needy
students from northern Nevada to attend the THINK Summer Institute
for gifted and talented young people.
Food
Bank of Northern Nevada: Back-Pack Kids Program, which
provides packages of nutritious food for children who might
otherwise go hungry on weekends.
Friends
of Washoe County Library: funding for the Children's Summer
Reading Program and Cultural Outreach Performances in the
Washoe County libraries.
Great
Basin Outdoor School: scholarships for 5th and 6th graders
in at-risk schools to participate in a four day Outdoor School
experience at Lake Tahoe.
Hispanic
Youth Scholarships for Nursing: scholarships for two Hispanic
youth to pursue a degree and career in nursing.
Nevada
Diabetes Association for Children and Adults: Terry Lee
Wells Memorial Fund to support camp programs for children
with diabetes and community diabetes programs in northern
Nevada.
Nevada
Discovery Museum: for the Capital Campaign to ensure successful
completion of the Build-It gallery.
Nevada
Women's Fund: funding to increase philanthropic efforts
to help women and families in northern Nevada.
Northern
Nevada RAVE Family Foundation: respite services to families
who are caring for young children with disabilities or special
needs.
Project
CARE: life skills training and support for parents in
Washoe Countys Adult Drug Court.
Reno
Philharmonic Association: Celebrate Strings Program to
provide classical music instruction and accessibility to underserved
elementary school children.
Planned
Parenthood Mar Monte: Male Investment Program, which helps
high risk young men develop the knowledge, skills and confidence
to avoid early fatherhood and prepare for productive futures.

Parenthood Mar Monte: Teen Success Program, which encourages
teen moms to stay in school, maintain family size and achieve
academic success, thus breaking the cycle of poverty and repeat
pregnancy.
Solace
Tree: support for grieving children, teens, and families
coping with the loss of a parent or other family member.
The
Notables: funding to establish a music program to serve
people with disabilities in the Carson City/Minden/Gardnerville
area.
VSA
arts of Nevada: weekly art workshops for children in the
Reno Housing Authority projects.
Washoe
Association of Retarded Citizens: Healthy Lifestyle Program,
which provides weekly recreational and healthy living activities
and monthly Adventure Club trips for retarded citizens in
our community.
Washoe
County School District: purchase library books and provide
field trips for the highest at-risk elementary schools in
Washoe County.
Washoe
County School District: purchase Jeff's Journey,
an audio bullying prevention program, for at-risk elementary
schools participating in the No More Bullies program.
